Outside the Beltway, more serious thoughts prevail. Victor Massad writes at The American Thinker today about the visual subtext of the Statue of Liberty fly-by photo:

One image alone was released from the expensive photo op that terrified New Yorkers last month. Out of God only knows how many images taken during the mission, only one was chosen. It speaks powerfully to the American public — in symbolic language.

The ominous and imposing aircraft dominates the scene in such a way that, in gestalt parlance, no one could mistake the figure for the ground. The figure is an aircraft that serves as Air Force One, representing the Messianic omnipotence of the Obama presidency. Below it, part of the background — a small and less relevant thing in comparison to the aircraft — stands the Statue of Liberty, representing the individual freedoms that Americans have come to treasure and enjoy.

The message and its purpose could not be clearer: we must reset our priorities. Now that the democracy is at last headed by this magnificent and elegant man, we must put the federal government and its needs ahead of our paltry individual freedoms. Of what value, after all, is the property Americans have spent their lifetimes to acquire, or one’s right to defend oneself with a firearm, or even the privilege of living in an upwardly mobile society that used to be the envy of the rest of the world, in comparison to the Leader’s magnificently powerful icon, glistening like a phoenix in the sun?

It is  beautiful spring afternoon, and time to get ready for a family weekend. After all, Mother’s Day is Sunday!

But then you look at the continuing deabcles that comprise and stem from Obama policies.

First, after saying that they would not release copies of our $328,000 photos of SCARCE FORCE ONE’s fly over Ground Zero and the Statue of Liberty, showing that Americans still have one eye on the sky at all times, Robert Glibb’s office released ONE single photo from the debacle. The ONE photo is presumably the LEAST offensive of the photo ops that they released.

In this photograph released by the White House, Air Force One ...

Add to the release of ONE photo, Louis Caldera, the head of the White House Military Office, has become the scapegoat taking the fall for the SCARE FORCE ONE public relations disaster. The President asked for Mr. Caldera’s resignation. Could someone answer why Rahm Emanuel, who orchestrated the photo op, wasn’t asked for his resignation letter as well?

Then, noting that it has been 90 days since the proper state authority received our applications for our Concealed Weapons permit, a phone call was made to ask where the permit is. State LAW says that the applicant must receive the permit or reasons for denial of the permit within 90 days of the application being received. The staffer says first that any application received since January is not even in the system yet for processing. Then, according to the staffer, it will be at least 4-5 months before they are processed. The final statement, when they were reminded that the LAW says that they MUST issue the permit within 90 days, or state reasons “within the law” for the denial, we were told that it had been decided to SUSPEND the LAW !! Why the problem: the processing office has a MAJOR backlog due to the EXTREMELY high volume of new applications since November 4th, 2008 (Reminder: Election Day 2008– Change we can Believe In)!

      Thus starts the Weekend!!

Sunlight is for suckers. The New York Post reported on Tuesday that the White House will not release the $328,835 snapshots taken of the president’s Boeing VC-25A that buzzed lower Manhattan. The entire world has seen news and amateur photos and videos of the incident. But if President Obama has his way, taxpayers won’t be able to see the flyover photos they paid for with their own money.

Scare Force One near Ground Zero

This will make for an interesting response to my Freedom of Information Act requests. After the bizarre mission caused distress and panic among countless New York City residents who were intentionally left in the dark about the photo-op stunt, I filed two public records requests with the Office of the Secretary of Defense and Joint Staff FOIA Requester Service Center. The first one requests any and all communication — including e-mail and other public records and including any and all correspondence between the White House Military Office, Department of Defense, and other agencies — related to the planned federal aerial mission over New York City on April 27, 2009. Specifically, I requested all public records related to and including the flight manifests, and related to the origin of the request for the mission. The second filing requests any and all photos taken during the planned federal aerial mission approved by the White House Military Office.

What rationale could they possibly use to stifle public disclosure? National security? These were glamour shots to enhance the Air Force One photo portfolio. That’s no secret. The White House ‘fessed up on that. Withholding the photos serves only one purpose: protecting the backsides of those involved in this botched p.r. mission.
