There has been another tragic shooting, and innocent lives have been lost or forever scarred. The gunman has taken one life, and is himself dead. The high school in Oregon, which has a student population of nearly 2800, had one more day of classes before the summer recess.

It is without question that this is a senseless act.

But it is also one that the gun control advocates will once again seize upon.

GUN CONTROL is not the answer. Not until we address the mental health issues plaguing this country. Not until we address the desensitization of our youths to violence through movies, video games, and music. If we are to have an honest debate about these violent acts, we must do so in an honest manner. The NRA is NOT to blame. GUNS are not to blame.

May God comfort the families of the victims today in Oregon, including the family of the gunman.

“I don’t know why any individual should have a right to have a revolver in his house,” Nixon said in a taped conversation with aides. “The kids usually kill themselves with it and so forth.” He asked why “can’t we go after handguns, period?”

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – A top Democratic lawmaker tried on Thursday to revive a U.S. assault-weapons ban, riding a wave of support for gun control after the killing of 20 children and six adults at a school in Connecticut last month.

       Senator Dianne Feinstein and several other Democrats said they were introducing a bill to ban semi-automatic weapons and high-capacity ammunition clips. It faces stiff opposition in Congress as well as from the National Rifle Association, the main U.S. lobby for gun manufacturers, and from many Americans.

       “Getting this bill signed into law will be an uphill battle, and I recognize that – but it is a battle worth having,” Feinstein said at a news conference to announce the bill.

Meanwhile:

New polling from Washington Post-ABC News and Pew find that President Obama’s campaign to repress the Second Amendment right “keep and bear arms” is faltering.

On January 22, 2013, Pew released polling results that found the public followed news about Obama’s gun control proposals closely and the reaction is mixed. Only 39 percent think Obama’s proposals are about right, while 31 percent think the proposals go too far. Or, as Politico put it, “39 percent back Obama gun plan.”

Gun manufacturer Ruger is overwhelmed with orders and had to suspend taking any new ones.

“Sturm, Ruger & Company, Inc. (NYSE: RGR), announced today that for the first quarter 2012, the Company has received orders for more than one million units.”

“Therefore, the Company has temporarily suspended the acceptance of new orders.”

FORT WORTH, Texas — Gun sales are booming across Texas, and some buyers say their growing belief that President Barack Obama will inevitably be re-elected is fueling their race to bear more arms.
And sales haven’t just risen in Texas. There’s been a rush nationwide, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram ( http://bit.ly/y3YDO6) reported in Sunday’s edition.
The Cheaper than Dirt gun store in Fort Worth set a sales record for February, said store owner DeWayne Irwin, who described the rush as similar to one seen shortly after Obama’s 2008 election.
“We’re at the top of the roller coaster, and we’re about to plummet down the side,” Irwin told the Star-Telegram. “It’s fixing to happen again. I don’t know if it will be to the same extent it was before, but I see it coming.”
Alan Korwin, author of nine books on gun laws and operator of a gun laws website, said people are worried that Obama’s re-election would embolden a major gun control push.

Obama administration officials are deliberately keeping gun owners in the dark about the president’s gun-control agenda as we head into next year’s national election, because administration officials know that when NRA members and gun owners show up at the polls en masse, anti-gun candidates lose.

The Obama campaign’s strategy goes like this:

  1. Neutralize gun owners and NRA members as a political force in the upcoming national election by pretending to be pro-gun or at least not focused on pushing a gun-control agenda;
  1. With gun owners neutralized, Obama will be able to win the election. After the president is re-elected, he won’t have to answer to voters because he won’t have to face another re-election battle;
  1. Launch a full-scale, all-out assault to rip the Second Amendment out of the Bill of Rights through legislation, litigation, regulation, executive orders and international treaties — in short, every lever of power at the administration’s disposal.

Americans may be fleeing from stocks in droves, but they sure aren’t shy about rotating the resulting meager liquidation proceeds into weaponry. According to Gallup, “Forty-seven percent of American adults currently report that they have a gun in their home or elsewhere on their property. This is up from 41% a year ago and is the highest Gallup has recorded since 1993, albeit marginally above the 44% and 45% highs seen during that period.” Considering the social situation “out there”, and the fact that the world is one badly phrased or translated headline away from a complete HFT-facilitated market collapse, this is hardly all that suprising.

     Is this the example of the National Rifle Association’s quid pro quo?

NRA tells board members they’re not to speak out or testify against Kagan’s SCOTUS nomination.  Is this part of  the deal they cut for getting their carve-out of the “DISCLOSE ACT” bill?
