Obviously the tragedy in Tucson is at the news forefront because it involved the attempted murder of a sitting United States Congresswoman, the murder of two federal officials (Judge Roll and Gabe Zimmerman), as well as 4 others. Add to the story now the left-wing man who was one of the injured victims of the shooting who was arrested for making death threats at a special town hall orgainzed by ABC for Christiane Amapour’s Sunday broadcast (he is now under 72 hour psychiatric evaluation).

But from the tragedy emerges hope—- Rep. Gabrielle Giffords continues to make remarkable strides in her recovery, though she is not “out of the woods” yet and has a long road to recovery. The doctors removed the breathing tube today, taking her off the ventilator.

From the tragedy word comes today that “Life” emerges. The young victim who has symbolized the sense of national tragedy, 9-year old Christina Taylor Green, will now be the hope, the life, the renewal of life for others. It was announced that Roxanna and John Green, in their moment of tragic loss, made that great decision to donate their daughter’s organs.

“She wanted to make a difference in her life. She wanted to make her mark, and she did so in so powerful a way that even she cannot imagine,” the priest said at her funeral, when mention was made of the organ donations. John Green stated on CNN that they have been informed that a young girl in the Boston area received Christina’s donation.

While Christina has become the face of the tragedy, I believe that in her brother, Dallas, and in her classmates at Mesa Verde Elementary, they are the face of the aftermath of the tragedy. They are the face of innocence lost. They are the face for each family in this tragedy….. they mourn a loss that they are not yet even old enough to understand (hell, as adults, we have a hard time with it), and that their parents struggle to explain, explaining the incomprehensible.

“Together We Thrive”

Perhaps there is a great explanation for souvenir t-shirts at a Memorial service to honor the victims of the shooting in Tucson!!

Anyone with insight into this?

He hit the nail on the head again!
“On his radio show Tuesday, Limbaugh said, “What Mr. Loughner knows is that he has the full support of a major political party in this country. He’s sitting there in jail. He knows what’s going on, he knows that… the Democrat party is attempting to find anybody but him to blame. He knows if he plays his cards right, he’s just a victim.”

Funeral protest plans by Westboro Baptist Church of Topeka, Kansas, have been met with defiance in Arizona. Tuscon residents say they’ll block the protesters from getting to the mourners of Saturday’s mass shooting. The state legislature has also passed a law to help.

State lawmakers Tuesday passed legislation that makes protests illegal within 300 feet of any home, house of worship, cemetery, or funeral home just before, during, or after a ceremony or burial.

Tucson residents also sprang into action when news of the planned protests spread. Many intend to meet the picketers with human barricades and some say they will wear oversize “angel wings” to shield mourners from seeing the protesters along the funeral routes.

Even as the Pima County Sheriff, with no supporting evidence whatsoever, continues to blame the vitriolic political rhetoric for the Tucson tragedy that has killed six people, the federal investigators have pieced together some pieces of the puzzle. The Sheriff stated from the start that US District Judge John Roll was merely “in the wrong place at the wrong time”, but investigators have carefully used several accounts to show that the Judge was at the event, in his official capacity:

The actions and motivations of U.S. District Court Judge John Roll just before he was shot dead at Rep. Gabrielle Giffords‘s campaign event in Tucson on Saturday are important for the public narrative about the tragedy, but they’re also vital to the federal criminal charge for his murder.

The criminal complaint federal prosecutors filed Sunday against the alleged shooter, Jared Loughner, goes to some lengths to demonstrate that Roll didn’t show up at the Giffords event just to say hello to the congresswoman, or on some whim after attending mass, as reports Saturday suggested. That storyline was fueled by Pima County Sheriff Clarence Dupnik, who said “because [Roll] knows Gabrielle very well, [he] came around the corner to say hi. Unfortunately he was in the wrong place at the wrong time.”

By contrast, FBI agent Tony Taylor argues that Roll was at the event to talk to Giffords about ongoing problems related to a surge in the federal judicial caseload in Arizona–a problem which the judge has attributed to a boost in the number of federal agents sent to the area to address immigration and border-related crime.

Under federal law, the murder or attempted murder of a U.S. official, such as a judge, is only considered a federal crime if committed “while such officer or employee is engaged in or on account of the performance of official duties.” In other words, if Roll simply stopped by the event to greet Giffords, who he’s said to have been friendly with, or due to idle curiosity about what was happening there, his killing probably wouldn’t be a federal offense.

Perhaps it is time to impose a gag order on the Sheriff’s comments, so that the investigation does not end up tainted to the benefit of the shooter!! Just Saying!!
