From Tad Dehaven @ Cato Institute:

In December 2010, I wrote that “An indicator of the incoming House Republican majority’s seriousness about cutting spending will be which members the party selects to head the various committees.” The final roster ended up leaving a lot to be desired from a limited government perspective. For example, the House Republican leadership and its allies went with “The Prince of Pork” to head up the Appropriations Committee.

Two years later, the committee situation is about to get even worse now that the House Republican leadership has decided to send a message that casting a vote according to one’s beliefs instead of one’s instructions is a punishable offense. On Monday, four congressmen were booted from “plum” committee assignments for failing to sufficiently tow the leadership line. I suspect that the purge was motivated, at least in part, by Team Boehner’s desire to have the rest of the rank and file think twice before casting a “no” vote on whatever lousy deal is struck with the White House to avoid the “fiscal cliff.”

Three of the purged Republicans are returning members of the 2010 freshmen “Tea Party Class”: Rep. David Schweikert (R-AZ), Justin Amash (R-MI), and Tim Huelskamp (R-KS). Over the past year, I have been keeping a loose record of how the freshmen voted on opportunities to eliminate programs and prevent spending increases. On seven particularly telling votes*, Schweikert and Amash voted in favor of limited government every time. Out of 87 freshmen, only Schweikert, Amash, and five others had a perfect record. Huelskamp was six for seven. He also was one of only four Republicans on the House Agriculture Committee to vote against the bloated farm bill that passed out of the committee in July. The fourth outcast, Rep. Walter Jones (R-NC), had become an irritant to the Republican establishment after turning against the Iraq War and associating himself with more libertarian Republicans like Rep. Ron Paul (R-TX).

Well, it’s official- Congressman Allen West has conceded his 18th congressional district race to Democrat Patrick Murphy earlier this morning.

It goes without saying that the loss is a huge one for conservatives, as West is one of the most fearless and articulate advocates for the conservative cause and our national security, his efforts will be greatly missed in Congress.

And permit us an opportunity to say something that no doubt will be ridiculed by Democrats, but is true nevertheless- the results of this race proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that merit, character, and experience matter little to Democrats- as long as there’s a (D) next to an individual’s name, far too many Democrats will support a clearly underqualified individual with no experience of any appreciable kind over a Republican, and in this case, an extraordinarily qualified one.

Today, both President Obama and Mitt Romney are jetting in every direction, hitting the ground in the key battleground states. They are making their last pitch to get the votes that they need for tomorrow.

Remaining cautiously optimistic, I believe we are in an electoral moment very similar to Election Eve 1976, as Democratic strategist Pat Caddell highlighted yesterday. On the weekend before the election in 1976, Pres. Gerald Ford was slightly ahead in a very close race with Georgia Gov. Jimmy Carter. But thorugh the weekend, the pollsters saw a momentum change taht carried through to the Election…. when it came to it, the people simply did not want the incumbent to carry on. This weekend, Pat Caddell says, he began seeing very similar data sentiments late Saturday and early Sunday. The one kink in the data is that in 1976, there was no early voting.

In about 30 hours, the polls on the East Coast will begin closing. Some pundits say we may not know until Wednesday or beyond who the next President will be. Others say we may know before midnight. Throughout the weekend, I have watched the clips of Obama and Romney. The optics of Obama and the superstars that he has used to “draw in the crowds” are completely opposite of those of Mitt and Ann Romney, hand in hand, with their sons. Obama’s rhetoric sounds desparate, even angry, while Romney is appealing to our better selves. Yes, I know it is politics, it is just words. But anwer me this…… Can we really handle 4 more years of Obama! A “lame-duck” Obama!?

Let this be “OUR MOMENT”, that moment when we can tell the next generation that we made changes and with great prayer, we made this OUR TIME to correct the moral compass of this great nation, and we once again will become the great leader that is the envy of the world. It is not Mitt Romney or Paul Ryan, not Allen West or Nancy Pelosi, Rand Paul or Chris Christie…. it is ALL of US together, working toward our better tomorrow!

From Politico:

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — If Democrats had to pick a vulnerable tea party  Republican they’d love to take out in November, Rep. Allen West would no doubt rank very high.

The bombastic freshman has spent the past two years taunting Democrats — he  called President Barack Obama “probably the dumbest person walking around in  America right now,” dubbed 80 of his Democratic House colleagues “communists” and told Debbie Wasserman Schultz she is “not a lady” — to name just a few of  his put-downs.

Here is Allen West’s smack down of Patrick Murphy-

“I stand by the actions I took to protect the lives of my men in Iraq in 2003,” Allen West said. “I paid a small fine for breaking rules in an effort to save the lives of my men. I still have my honorable discharge certificate as a Lieutenant Colonel and I voluntarily submitted my retirement paperwork upon redeploying from Iraq. Patrick Murphy has never volunteered to serve this country.  If put in that situation, it is obvious Patrick Murphy would risk neither his life nor endanger his career for those he was entrusted to lead.”- Allen West

“What kind of man who has never worn the uniform attacks an honorably discharged combat veteran for protecting the lives of his soldiers?  A desperate man and apparently the same kind of man who calls a decorated combat veteran a coward, hides behind his father’s racist attack ads, gets into drunken bar fights, verbally assaults police officers and then uses his family’s connections to get out of trouble.”-West Campaign Manager Tim Edson.

I have a Bachelor’s degree and two Master’s degrees in political science, political theory, political ideology. And the thing is you have to be able to understand the two competing principles of philosophies of governance in this country,” Rep. West said.”
While having the “degrees” may not qualify him as an expert in some eyes, it sure means that he knows more about the subject than the goons in the Media that bashed his comments.

“You can call it whatever you want,” West replied.

“Yeah, but I want to know what you’re calling it,” O’Brien said.

“I’m calling it this,” West clarified. “Communist, progressive, Marxist, statist, another term being used. I’m looking at things they believe in. If you don’t think we have to stand upon truth and be able to identify and clearly contrast the different principles and values and ideologies of governance here in this country, then we’re never going to get to the fact of accepting the true debate happening in America. We don’t need a bureaucratic nanny state. We need to stay a Constitutional Republic. I think a lot of people need to study that and understand what it is.”

O’Brien then read a statement from the Vice Chairman of the National Communist Party who said West was wrong for calling his colleagues communists.

“I don’t care what he says,” West said bluntly.
