Cooper Stone’s favorite player is Josh Hamilton….. still.
Friday night, as the Rangers started there ALDS Playoff series, 6-year old Stone got to meet his idol, in a bittersweet moment. It was in July that Cooper was at a game with his father, Shannon, when Hamilton tossed a ball to the father-son duo. Losing his balance, Shannon Stone fell 20 feet to his death. Hamilton had said afterwards, when hearing of Cooper’s love of the Rangers, and how he was Cooper’s favorite player, that he would meet Cooper “when the time was right”
To a standing ovation, Cooper and his mother strolled onto the field so Cooper could throw the first pitch to Josh Hamilton. Mrs. Stone’s tears were hidden by her sunglasses, but the cameras caught many fans wiping their tears as the boy and the ball player hugged after the pitch.
For many, it is the highlight of the Rangers season.
