In the daily machinations of our lives, with bailouts and political wranglings, time for reading and such oftens gets by us. But recently, I came across the following passage, and thought how much it applied to the present state of our Government, particularly in the last 4 to 6 months:

      ” That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, that whenever any form of Government becomes destructive to these ends, it is the RIGHT of the PEOPLE to alter or to abolish it, and to institute a new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness. Prudence, indeedm will dictate that Governments long established not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shewn, that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolsihing the forms to which they are accustomed. But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their RIGHT, it is their DUTY, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future SECURITY.

     For something written more than two hundred years ago, the authors could have, in reality, been right here today writing this treatise. How applicable!

     Oh, I forgot that I eed to cite the source and author: The Declaration of Independence and the authors are our Founding Fathers.

Perhaps it is time for our elected officials to read this document and the Constitution that they swear to uphold and defend…. perhaps they’d have a different perspective on their elected position.
