A new book on the Obamas reveals that Michelle Obama was distressed and resented the power “white Irish Catholics” held in Illinois.
The Sun-Times reported:
Mrs. Obama worked in the Daley administration between Sept. 16, 1991, and April 30, 1993, according to City of Chicago personnel records. She was hired by Jarrett, then Daley’s deputy chief of staff.
Kantor writes Mrs. Obama “disapproved of how closely Daley held power, surrounding himself with three or four people who seemed to let few outsiders in — a concern she would echo years later with her own husband.
“…She particularly resented the way power in Illinois was locked up generation after generation by a small group of families, all white Irish Catholic – the Daleys in Chicago, the Hynes and Madigans statewide.”
When Jarrett was forced out of City Hall in 1995 — even though she was close to Daley — “the Obamas were horrified, their worst suspicions about the world confirmed.”
So one has to wonder how William Daley ever got the Chief of Staff gig in the first place!
Daley Abruptly QUITS as Obama’s Chief of Staff; Had Originally Planned to Leave AFTER Election

There is trouble afoot at the White House.
WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama announced unexpectedly on Monday that chief of staff William Daley was quitting and heading home, capping a short and rocky tenure that had been expected to last until Election Day in November.
Obama budget director Jack Lew, a figure long familiar with Washington’s ways, is to take over one of the most consuming jobs in America.
Daley’s run as Obama’s chief manager and gatekeeper lasted only a year. It was filled with consequential moments for the White House, like the killing of al-Qaida terrorist leader Osama bin Laden, but also stumbles with Congress and grumbles that Daley was not the right choice to coordinate an intense operation of ideas, egos and decisions.
Obama said he reluctantly accepted the news and at first had refused to accept Daley’s post-holidays resignation letter last week.
Daley did not waver, expressing to his boss a desire to get back to his family in Chicago, where Daleys have dominated local politics for decades. He offered no explanation on Monday about what accelerated his decision; he had committed to Obama that he would stay on through the election.

Thoughts for the Day: US Constitution, Health Care Repeal, Chicago Machine as Chief of Staff

So what are your thoughts on the 112th reading the US Constitution?
ObamaCare and its affect on the US small businesses? Should the Congress start from scratch by repealing the monstrosity, or work to change it from its framework?
Is the addition of a relative of the Chicago political machine a good choice as Obama’s new Chief-of-Staff?
Any other thoughts?
