From  The Hill:

Mitt Romney blasted President Obama for comments during a press conference Friday where the president suggested the private sector was “doing fine.”

“He said the private sector is doing fine. Is he really that out of touch?” Romney said at an event in Council Bluffs, Ia. “I think he’s defining what it means to be out of touch with the American people.”

In the president’s remarks Friday morning, he repeatedly said hiring at private industries was “fine” and occurring at “a solid pace,” arguing instead for additional funds for state and local governments to hire teachers and emergency personnel. But Republicans quickly pounced on his remarks in light of May’s disappointing job numbers, and Romney said the comments could have historic implications.

“For the president of the United States to stand up and say the private sector is doing fine is going to go down in history as an extraordinary miscalculation,” Romney told the crowd.

from the Daily Beast:

This summer, federal inspectors made a routine visit to 11 homes in St. Louis to see what taxpayers got for the $5 billion that President Obama spent to help Americans weatherize their homes to save energy.

What they found was quite a surprise. Some of the energy-efficient furnaces installed at taxpayer expense spewed carbon monoxide that could poison occupants. New water heaters lacked required pressure valves, putting them in jeopardy of exploding. And a handful of contractors—unfamiliar with the nuances of specialized weatherization work—had used air blowers in homes with asbestos, potentially dispersing the cancer-causing agent, according to several Energy Department inspector-general reports.

“The results of the Congressional probe shared Tuesday with ABC News show that less than two weeks before President Bush left office, on January 9, 2009, the Energy Department’s credit committee had voted against offering a loan commitment to Solyndra.”

From CNN MONEY:

President Obama proposed a new program Tuesday that would reimburse homeowners for energy-efficient appliances and insulation, part of a broader plan to stimulate the economy.

The administration didn’t provide immediate details, but said it would work with Congress on crafting legislation. Steve Nadel, director at the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy, who’s advising on the bill, said a homeowner could receive up to $12,000 in rebates.

The proposal is part of the President’s larger spending plan, which also includes money for small businesses, renewable energy manufacturing, and infrastructure.

We know energy efficiency “creates jobs, saves money for families, and reduces the pollution that threatens our environment,” Obama said. “With additional resources, in areas like advanced manufacturing of wind turbines and solar panels, for instance, we can help turn good ideas into good private-sector jobs.”

The program contains two parts: money for homeowners for efficiency projects, and money for companies in the renewable energy and efficiency space.

The plan will likely create a new program where private contractors conduct home energy audits, buy the necessary gear and install it, according to a staffer on the Senate Energy Committee and Nadel at the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy.

Big-ticket items like air conditioners, heating systems, washing machines, refrigerators, windows and insulation would likely be covered, Nadel said.

Based on earlier bills, consumers might be eligible for a 50% rebate on both the price of the equipment and the installation, up to $12,000, said Nadel. So far, there is no income restriction on who is eligible. That would mean a household could spend as much as $24,000 on upgrades and get half back.

Homes that take full advantage of the program could see their energy bills drop as much as 20%, he said. The program is expected to cost in the $10 billion range.

The “Government-approved” washer and dryer combo:

Recently, the organization that Van Jones founded, “Green For All”  received a multi-million dollar windfall from Bill Clinton’s foundation, the Clinton Global Initiative.”

“This cash infusion comes AFTER Mr. Jones has been outed as a Marxist 9/11 truther.”

“Why would the Clinton Initiative be so gracious to an organization founded by someone so radical? Maybe it has something to do with the fact that “Green For All” was co-founded by the Clinton Global Initiative, with Van Jones.”
