The defense team for deposed Gov. Rod Blagojevich has moved to subpoena President Barack Obama to testify at Blagojevich’s corruption trial.

Blagojevich has pleaded not guilty to charges that accuse him of scheming to sell or trade the Senate seat left vacant by Obama’s election as president.

The motion filed Thursday says Obama was interviewed for two hours by prosecutors and FBI agents regarding the Blagojevich case, and the defense filed a motion asking for all transcripts, notes and reports from that interview. But the defense never received the documents, the motion said.

The motion also claims that prosecutors say Blagojevich met a labor union official whom he believed to be in contact with President Obama, and told the official he would appoint a certain candidate to the vacant Senate seat. In exchange, Blagojevich expected to be named secretary of Health and Human Services, the motion says prosecutors claim.

But Obama has said he was “confident that no representatives of mine would have any part of any deals related to this seat,” the motion says.

“President Obama has direct knowledge to allegations made in the indictment. In addition, President Obama’s public statements contradict other witness statements, specifically those made by labor union official and Senate Candidate B,” the motion said.

We always knew that the Blago trial would be entertaining!!

This is all anyone in Chicago is talking about today:  former Governor Rod Blagojevich is talking about the pressure the White House put on him to make Valerie Jarrett a placeholder Senator until Rahm Emanuel could run for the Senate in 2010.  The plan was to make Rahm Emanuel Majority Leader, since Democrats realize Harry Reid is going down in Nevada and won’t be re-elected.

More later on all this…but that’s what the 8 phone calls between Blagojevich and Emanuel were all about.  Dr. Utopia wanted his Senate seat to go to crony Jarrett briefly…then pass permanently to Emanuel.”

Remember Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich trying to get the editorial board replaced at the Chicago Tribune, replaced with people who would give “more favorable” coverage to the Governor?

Well it seems that George Soros wants to use a similar tactic at CNBC, since he doesn’t like the idea that they are pointing the blame for our financial woes more at Washington DC than at Wall Street, and that does not fit the socialistic reform agenda:

Liberal media watchdog begins anti-CNBC drive

NEW YORK – Some critics are seizing on comedian Jon Stewart’s attacks of CNBC to launch an online petition drive urging the network to be tougher on Wall Street leaders.

The liberal media watchdog Media Matters for America and some economists are behind the effort, launched Monday. They’re asking CNBC to hire economic voices with a track record of being right about the current crisis and do more to hold business leaders accountable.

CNBC has been in the firing line since Stewart pointed out network personalities who, in retrospect, offered bad financial advice.

CNBC had no immediate comment. CNBC spokesman Brian Steel said last week that the network was proud of its record of offering diverse opinions on the economy.

JW Obtains Grand Jury Subpoenas of Federal Investigation of Former Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich – White House Advisors Listed

Washington, DC — March 12, 2009

Subpoenas Issued Seeking Records on Individuals Connected to Obama Include: Valerie Jarrett, David Axelrod, David Wilhelm and J.B. Pritzker

Judicial Watch, the public interest group that investigates and prosecutes government corruption, announced today that it obtained documents from the office of former Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich as result of an Illinois Freedom of Information Act lawsuit related to federal investigations of Blagojevich, who was removed from office in January for attempting to “sell” President Obama’s Senate seat, among other charges. The documents include federal subpoenas issued to Governor Blagojevich’s office related to a number of individuals connected to President Obama and the national Democratic party, including:

  • Valerie Jarrett: Once labeled “the other side of Barack Obama’s brain” by CBS news, Jarrett remains a close advisor to President Obama. Obama recently tapped Jarrett to chair his newly formed White House Council on Women and Girls. Jarrett was widely rumored to be a candidate to take over Obama’s senate seat.
  • David Axelrod: Axelrod, Obama’s top campaign strategist, now serves as a senior White House advisor. During the campaign, when asked about the search for a replacement for Obama’s Senate seat, Axelrod told Fox News Chicago, “I know [Obama has] talked to the governor and there are a whole range of names, many of which have surfaced, and I think he has a fondness for a lot of them.” He later retracted the statement.
  • David Wilhelm: Wilhelm, a former Chairman of the Democratic National Committee and campaign strategist for Bill Clinton, served as an informal advisor to the Obama campaign. He was also a superdelegate to the 2008 Democratic National Convention.
  • J.B. Pritzker: Obama named Mr. Pritzker’s sister, Penny, to serve on his recently formed 15-member Economic Recovery Advisory Board. Penny Pritzker previously served as the Obama campaign’s National Finance Chair.

Judicial Watch filed its original Freedom of Information Act request on November 27, 2006. Blagojevich’s office claimed the subpoenas were exempt from disclosure. Judicial Watch filed a lawsuit on January 16, 2007, in the Cook County Illinois Circuit Court. Governor Pat Quinn’s office finally released the grand jury subpoenas on March 4, 2009.

The grand jury subpoena requesting documents on Jarrett, Axelrod and Pritzker is dated December 8, 2008. The grand jury subpoena that concerns David Wilhelm is dated April 13, 2007.

“We now have confirmation that top Obama White House officials are caught up in a federal grand jury investigation,” said Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton. “It would be helpful if President Obama kept his promises of transparency and finally released all documents related to this scandal.”

In January 2009, Judicial Watch obtained documents specifically regarding Blagojevich’s contacts with President Obama and his transition team. The documents include a December 3, 2008, letter from Barack Obama following a meeting with Blagojevich as well as a November 17, 2008, letter signed by former Presidential Transition Team co-chairs Valerie Jarrett and John Podesta providing Blagojevich with a list of transition team contacts.

Judicial Watch Litigation Director Paul Orfanedes also testified to the 21-member Special Investigative Committee that recommended Blagojevich’s impeachment to the Illinois House of Representatives.

In the last day of his impeachment trial before the Illinois State Senate, Gov. Rod Blagojevich made in impassioned plea to keep his job as the Chief Executive of Illinois, saying that he cannot apologize to them because he has not done anything wrong. With tones consistent with old-time gangster movies, Blago’s demeanor and his body language show that those politicos throughout Chicago, Illinois, and probably has them on edge in the halls of Washington DC.

After a vote of 59-0, the Governor was removed from office, and in a separate vote, the State Senate voted to bar Blagojevich from holding public office in Illinois ever again. Immediately thereafter, Lt. Gov. Pat Quinn was sworn in as the Governor in his office, and then again in a ceremonial swearing in.

As the locks are changed on the doors of the Governor’s office, the press is waiting for the former Governor to address the gathered group.

He speaks of his travels to Pakistan in his memoir “Dreams of My Father”, travelling to the war-torn country at a time it was under martial law, at a time where it opened its borders more freely to those of Muslim heritage, for which he could pass at that time as a young adult (having not yet met his spiritual mentor Rev. Jeremiah Wright).

In his books, he mentions his drug usage, which he contends he ended while still in college. Yet, there have been more than one allegation that the drug usage has occurred at other times, such as 1999, perhaps even during the campaign trail.

He has worked with great effort to make sure that his vault birth certficate remains under lock and key in Hawaii, and to make sure that Occidental College does not honor the subpoenas that have been issued to release his college records. He has made sure that Columbia University and Harvard Law School do not release any records either.

He has ties, politically and financially, to a convicted felon and a drug sex partier well known to the Chicago political elite.

The Illinois Governor, now a loose cannon facing impeachment, has ties to the same politicos as he does.

With all these loose ends to control, what type of blackmail can be used against our 44th President? We know that the President and Pakistan are at odds at the moment, particularly in light of the drones that attacked Pakistan on Friday. Can Pakistan use their passport records and customs reports from 1981 to change Us-Pakistani relations?

Can Governor Blagojevich use his knowledge to keep his Governor’s seat or something better, to be less of a loose cannon?

Have some of the Obama appointments been “quid pro quo” favors for keeping the college records sealed, such as the Harvard Law School Dean now a member of the Obama administration?

I think that President Obama would be well served to release his birth certificate and his college records, post haste, and bring this fraud to an end……. let the chips then fall where they may!

From the moment that President Elect Barack Obama announced his appointment of Eric Holder to be Attorney General, there has been a flurry of dissent about the former Clinton appointee, and the controversies that have dogged him since the Clinton administration. As his confirmation hearings begin today before the Senate Judiciary Committee, his confirmation may not be off track completely, but the Republicans, and some Democrats, are not going to give Holder an easy ride through the process.

Holder’s involvement in key problems in the Attorney General’s office during the Clinton era include:

  • The controversial pardon of fugitive financier Mark Rich, and questionable contributions from Rich’s ex-wife.
  • The pardons of the FLNA and some of the Weather Underground (the same group that Bill Ayers was involved with)
  • the decision to seize 6-year old Cuban refugee Elian Gonzalez at gunpoint from his uncle’s Miami home to return him to his father in Cuba
  • ties to embattled Gov. Rod Blagojevich

Judicial Watch has actively campaigned against the confirmation of Eric Holder, contacting the Senators, and taking out a full page advertisement to urge the same.

In his opening remarks, Eric Holder used the story of Governor George Wallace’s refusal to permit Holder’s late sister-in-law admittance to college in Alabama during the civil rights movement, and then her actual admission to the University of Alabama. (If we are to rejoice in the election of Obama as a biracial President, is it not time that we cease using past history that will continue to create racial division). As the statements and the questioning has started, Holder has acknowledged some of his Clinton actions as possible mistakes, and he has also defined waterboarding as torture. (The Obama administration needs to tread lightly in that area, because our national security can be undermined with the utterance of a few misguided words).

Sen. Arlen Specter, the ranking Republican on the committee, criticized both Holder and Sen. Leahy in his opening remarks, and basically guaranteed that this process was not going to be an easy one. Quipped one member of the Obama transition team “Hope you brought your dinner!!”

Upon arriving in Washignton DC to join his family for the start of the school session and to prepare for the start of their new lives, President-Elect Barack Obama had to issue a statement that he was accepting New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson’s request to withdraw as the Secretary of Commerce designee “with deep regret”.

FOXNews has confirmed that the New Mexico Governor had submitted his request to Obama because he believed that the ongoing Federal Grand Jury investigation into allegations of “pay to play” for some sizable government contracts would be an interference in the Senate confirmation process. Richardson believes that his administration will be exonerated of any wrongdoing, but he does not foresee it being resolved prior to the Inauguration. Some sources have told NBC’s Andrea Mitchell that the Obama transition team has spent the past week “pushing” Richardson toward today’s announcement.

Gov. Richardson’s problems are not in any way related to those of the embattled Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich, who is accused, among other things, of attempting to “sell” the Senate seat of Barack Obama. However, they do highlight some of the mechanics of the political system that are at the crux of many of our problems, and thus they highlight why the proper vetting of a Presidential candidate is so imperative.  Richardson is the first political casualty of the Obama cabinet, and many sources are saying that the confirmation hearings for Eric Holder as Attorney General will not go as easily as the President-Elect had been assured before naming Holder. The Democrats are on edge in light of the Blagojevich scandal, their Senate loss in Georgia, and the Coleman/Franken debacle, and they are well aware that Holder’s role in controversial Clinton-era actions cannot simply be swept under the rug.

Citing the fact that the Illinois legislature failed t respond to the needs of the citzens of Illinois by setting up a special electon to fill the Senate seat vacated by President Elect Barack Hussein Obama, Gov. Rod Blagojevich accepted the challenge of his own Party, and those in the State that want him out of office, and he announced his appointment of Roland Burris to fill the Obama Senate seat. The former seat holder, Barack Obama, called again for the Governor’s resignation.

Roland Burris is not unknown in Illinois, having served as the Attorney General, as well as other public positions. The Governor also chose Burris because he is black, and it has become an unwritten concensus that since they classified Obama as a black Senator, the only one in the Senate, his seat must now be held by a black person. While Mr. Burris is aptly qualified for the Senate position, it is sad that the media has tagged the position to be race based henceforth.

The Governor has now set up a showdown with the Illinois Secretary of State, who has said that office will not certify any appointment made by the Blagojevich, and with Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, who has vowed not to seat any Blagojevich appointment as well, given the circumstances surrounding the Governor’s arrest, and the federal investigation that has been ongoing for several years. Should Sen. Reid use the power to refuse to seat Burris, it will be an unprecedented use of a rare Constitutional power that the Senate holds.

Within the next 72 hours, Rep. Rahm Emanuel will resign his Illinois Congressional seat because of his appointment as Obama’s Chief of Staff. Under Illinois law, the Governor has 150 days to call a special election to fill that seat. Now that election is only in a certain section of Illinois, but wouldn’t it make sense to have a special election statewide for the Senate seat, so it is without the taint of the Governor-President Elect-Emanuel corruption scandal overshadowing the new Senator?

In just over 48 hours, we will dismiss 2008 as the year that was, and welcome 2009 as the new year, hopefully one with a better outlook than 2008 has given to it. So, we can reflect on some of the events of 2008, in no particular order:

The biased liberal media trashes Hillary Clinton, and chooses Barack Obama to be the Democratic Presidential candidate, saying that any questioning of Obama is outright racism!

The surge that was proposed by President Bush, under the direction of Gen. Petraeus, and supported by Republican Sen. John McCain, worked, although Barack Obama would not admit it.

The Republicans choose a female Vice-Presidential candidate, Gov. Sarah Palin of Alaska. The liberal media attacks her, while continuing to vet Barack Obama.

Questions swirl about Barack Obama’s citizenship, dual citizenship, and place of birth. The campaign posts a document that is reported to be legitimate, but refuses to produce the original vault document, creating a flurry of lawsuits, several of which reached the Supreme Court. No one, not even the Supreme Court Justices, want to question Obama for fear of being labelled racist.

Israel attacks in the Gaza strip, while Iran continues to threaten the annihilation of Isreal.

China was on the world stage as it hosted the Summer Olympics.

     AIG needs a huge bailout.

The Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac mortgage deriviatives, which the Democrats fostered in their urge of home ownership for all, caused a financial debacle on Wall Street, creating the beginning of the Fall’s “Bailout Mania”.

In a vote against George Bush, the American electorate elected Barack Obama as President, touting him as the first Black American President. In reality, Obama is biracial, being more caucasian that black according to genealogists, and, by some records, he is the 6th biracial President. behind Jefferson, Jackson, Lincoln, Harding, and Coolidge.

Obama’s transition team became involved in the Illinois Governor’s controversy as he attempted to “sell” the vacant Senate seat that Obama held.

New Orleans and Galveston were both hit by strong hurricanes, but there seemed to be a great deal more organization and preparation than was evident in Katrina in 2005.

A young Orlando, FL mother failed to report her 2-year old daughter “missing” for nearly a month, and then claimed the child had been kidnapped. Five months later, and many lies later, the remains of young Caylee Anthony were found just 15 houses away from her grandparent’s home, where she had lived with her mother, now in jail on murder charges.
