I guess a one month mourning period is enough. Granted, Elizabeth Edwards had given her philandering lowlife husband the boot a year ago, yet she graciously welcomed him into her home to be there for their children as she spent her final days in her battle against breast cancer.

Gossip papers are today reporting that John Edwards is engaged to his mistress, Rielle Hunter. The videographer/mistress is also the mother of Edward’s youngest child.

Perhaps Edwards could have at least respectfully waited until AFTER his eldest daughter, Cate, gets married, having gotten engaged to Trevor Upham on Thanksgiving weekend, just a week before her mother’s death.

John Edwards has “reportedly” asked mistress Rielle Hunter to marry him, according to tabloid magazine The National Enquirer.

The Hollywood Gossip has a screenshot of the latest issue of the Enquirer, the publication that broke the original story about Edwards’s liaison with Hunter, his campaign videographer, and predicts that the two might tie the knot this summer, if at all.

A mere 24 hours after her family announced that Elizabeth Edwards was resting comfortably at home, after doctors had told her that her cancer had spread to her liver, after she posted a poignant “goodbye” to her friends on her Facebook, she passed away. All reports have indicated that her family, including her daughters and her son, her siblings, nieces, nephews, and her estranged husband, former Senator John Edwards, were with her.

A woman of strength and courage, Elizabeth Edwards said that she was using these past few years to prepare her two younger children for the road that lies ahead. She wanted to be an example for them, as indicated by the name of her second book, Resillience.

     Elizabeth Edwards’ message:

The days of our lives, for all of us, are numbered,” she wrote. “We know that. And yes, there are certainly times when we aren’t able to muster as much strength and patience as we would like. It’s called being human. But I have found that in the simple act of living with hope, and in the daily effort to have a positive impact in the world, the days I do have are made all the more meaningful and precious. And for that I am grateful.”

Elizabeth Edwards has bravely battled her breast cancer in the public eye, and for more than half the battle, she had endured the pain and anguish caused by her husband’s infidelity, including the tabloidesque antics of his mistress and his surrogates who played the story out in the press for their own benefit.

The wife of former Senator John Edwards, once the golden boy of the Democratic Party, was recently hospitalized, but has now returned to her home, to her family. A statement from the family says that doctors have told Mrs. Edwards that any further treatments for her cancer would be “unproductive”. Sources close to the family have said that Elizabeth Edwards has returned to her “to die”, and that she has barely weeks, if not days.

From her personal Facebook page, she has posted what CBSNews has titled as her “Apparent Goodbye Message”:

The days of our lives, for all of us, are numbered. We know that.”

You all know that I have been sustained throughout my life by three saving graces – my family, my friends, and a faith in the power of resilience and hope,”

Her family has gathered at her side, and it is said that her estranged husband, John Edwards, has joined them. The Edward’s daughter Cate is 28, daughter Emma Claire is 12, and son Jack is 10. (The couple’s elest child, Wade, died in 1996 at the age of 17 in a car accident).

Jeff Schreiber from America’s Right ends his article on the Obama-Vera Baker story with the following observation:

Of course, as much as I would like to see this allegation of infidelity prove untrue, what I would really like to see is whatever story there is pursued as relentlessly by the mainstream media as they would if the possible cheater were Sarah Palin.  After all, when you compare the media coverage of Mark Sanford’s failure to distinguish the Appalachian Trail from Argentinian tail with the perpetual cycle of ridicule-denial-admittance that was the John Edwards scandal, the press certainly has some ground to make up if they’re even moderately concerned about maintaining even a shred of objectivity.
