Alright, President Obama is miffed that they have not “filled that damn hole” in the Gulf of Mexico, and because of that, he has to postpone his mini-vacation to Chicago for Memorial Day weekend.

Yes, its Memorial Day Weekend, and the President of the United States will NOT be present to lay a wreath at Arlington National Cemetery, the hallowed ground that pays homage to our greatest lost treasures– those who paid the ultimate sacrifice for OUR Freedom.

President Bill Clinton paid tribute to our fallen heroes on each of the eight Memorial Days of his Presidency. His successor, President George W. Bush, missed one of his eight Memorial Days. Oh, but the one he missed, in 2002, was to attend a Memorial Day commemoration– at Normandy. And it has been said that his father, George HW Bush, missed one of his 4 Memorial Days, but, given that he is a WWII veteran who was shot down in battle, I think he gets a pass.

Several years ago, my son and I had the honor to first spend a crisp Fall morning watching the cadets at the United States Naval Academy. Later in the day, we walked through the gates of Arlington National Cemetery. The honor guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier highlights the solemn sacrifice of our heroes.

Yes, President Obama will attend a ceremony at the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, and the families of our heroes buried there will be appreciative of his presence. But it is at Arlington that the symbolism of this great nation comes full fold. The President, whose stature with our military as stressed thin as it is, should not be giving the appearance that his appearance on Memorial Day is secondary to his “mini-vacation”.

Like the millions of citizens who’ve peacefully risen up and attended thousands of rallies in protest, I seek nothing more than the preservation of the social contract that undergirds our society. I do not hate the government, as the left does when it is not running it. I love this country. And because I do, I insist that the temporary inhabitants of high political office comply with the Constitution, honor our God-given unalienable rights, and respect our hard-earned private property. For this I am called seditious, among other things, by some of the very people who’ve condemned this society?”

from Politico:

“I’ve been doing that with this White House, and they just don’t seem to give it any credibility at all,” Berry said. “They just kept telling us how good it was going to be. The president himself, when that was brought up in one group, said, ‘Well, the big difference here and in ’94 was you’ve got me.’ We’re going to see how much difference that makes now.” [snip]

Sometimes, I know that I can be alittle slow. Sometimes, it takes awhile for things to sink in. But as of yet, even more than a week after he has said it, I am still not understanding the concept that Obama is putting forth to assess the banks  that received TARP funds, to recoup “our money”

“Riddle me this” OBatman— The banks that the White House wants to charge a fee to, as a means of recouping the TARP funds used to bail the banks out, HAVE ALREADY REPAID THE TARP FUNDS, with INTEREST!! So now, they must pay a penalty on top of that, and the White House is appalled that the banks say that the fee expense will be passed on to the consumer. NEWSFLASH– that is the nature of business; the costs of business are part of the pricing model… basic simple Economics 101.

Now, as anyone who has received a mortgage loan knows, there is usually an”origination fee” for the loan, i.e. a fee to give you the loan. IF there was to be such a thing in the TARP funds, the banks should have been told that upfront.

Additionally, several TARP recipients and other bailout programs are not a part of the mix. GM and Chrysler have not repaid TARP funds, but are not going to be assessed a fee. I believe that I heard that Wells Fargo is not on the list either. Sounds like politics, not business. I am sure that we will hear a lot f villainization of Wall Street in the State of the Union address. Obama tried to get the crowd in Ohio to chant “we want our money back” to show that the people are angry with Wall Street.

From those I have spoken with, the anger is not at Wall Street. After all, during the good years, no one complained about the “bonus” propgrams or executive salaries. The anger is with the bureaucrats in DC and New York. Barney Frank, Bill Clinton, barack Obama as a community organizer, Maxine Waters are all responsible for  the legislation that forced the banks to give loans that they basically should not have done. Questions were raised over the years about Fannie and Freddie, and Barney & Maxine protected them. Bush is demonized for the mortgage bubble, but the Bush White House tried on several occasions to question some of the policies that were leading us toward this disaster. The SEC was aware of the deriviatives that were being created by the brokerage houses using the mortgages, and they were aware of the AIG insurance on the plans, but they were asleep at the wheel.

The anger on main street is not at Wall Street wholly and solely, but lies far more on the side of the Capitol…. Wall Street is merely the “distraction” that the Obama team is using to continue to demoralize our economy.

Bill Clinton: If We Elect Scott Brown, the Earthquake Wins   [Robert Costa]

BOSTON—In a conversation with National Review Online, former president Bill Clinton defended his appearance today at a rally for Democrat Martha Coakley while Haiti is recovering from Tuesday’s earthquake. When I told him that some had been critical of his decision to stump for Coakley while hundreds of thousands are still trapped under rubble, he responded with annoyance: “Who?” he challenged, “who is criticizing me? It’s your problem if you can’t see how these things aren’t mutually exclusive.” Electing Coakley, he said, will “help lead to good governance” that will support Haiti while it rebuilds. When Congressman Ed Markey told Clinton that I worked for National Review, Clinton concluded with this: “See, it’s you guys who are saying this stuff, I don’t hear it.” With that, he jumped in his SUV, on his way to Worcester for another rally. Haiti, it seems, can wait.

According to Secret Service Director Mark Sullivan, however, both of these left-wing media reports are patently false. In fact, according to Director Sullivan, death threats against President Obama are no greater than those leveled against Presidents Bush and Clinton.”

What, you may ask, would those obnoxious email and fax scams from Nigeria have to do with First Daughter Chelsea Clinton? Well, with the announcement of her engagement to her longtime boyfriend Marc Mezvinsky, Chelsea adds a new controversy line to her resume.

It seems that her future father-in-law was  sentenced to prison for around seven years. Former Iowa Congressman Edward Mezvinsky got caught up in the Nigerian scams.

Bill and Hillary’s future son-in-law works for a Manhattan hedge fund as an investment banker, and like Chelsea, he attended Stanford University. The two have known each other since they were teenagers. A summer 2010 wedding is planned…. probably just ahead of Hillary Clinton’s resignation from the State Department and formation of the Hillary 2012 Campaign Committee!!

Throughout the Clinton Administartion and even afterwards, President Clinton and Hillary Clinton were constatntly linked to the death, apparent suicide, of one of their longtime advisors, Vince Foster. Mr. Foster allegedly died of a gunshot wound, ruled as suicide.

Now, years later, and a new Administration, and it seems that Obama is racking up a group of “similar” “disfunctional” colleagues and associates.

Christopher Kelly, an aide to former Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich, allegedly died of an overdose of pain killers just after pleading guilty to federal corruption charges.

This week, Michael Scott, the President of the Chicago Board of Education, committed suicide. Mr. Scott was an integral member of the failed Chicago Olympics bid, and he had real estate holdings that were called into question during the Olympic planning process.

And, of course, who can forget the choir director of Obama’s church, Trinity, who was murdered in December 2007, just before Obama’s campaign began to get traction.

Is there a suicide epidemic among the Chicago political mob?

Thank you former President George W. Bush and former First Lady Laura BushPosted by hillbuzz under Uncategorized | Tags: , |

We know absolutely no one in Bush family circles and have never met former President George W. Bush or his wife Laura.

If you have been reading us for any length of time, you know that we used to make fun of “Dubya” nearly every day…parroting the same comedic bits we heard in our Democrat circles, where Bush is still, to this day, lampooned as a chimp, a bumbling idiot, and a poor, clumsy public speaker.

Oh, how we RAILED against Bush in 2000…and how we RAILED against the surge in support Bush received post-9/11 when he went to Ground Zero and stood there with his bullhorn in the ruins on that hideous day.

We were convinced that ANYONE who was president would have done what Bush did, and would have set that right tone of leadership in the wake of that disaster.  President Gore, President Perot, President Nader, you name it.  ANYONE, we assumed, would have filled that role perfectly.

Well, we told you before how much the current president, Dr. Utopia, made us realize just how wrong we were about Bush.  We shudder to think what Dr. Utopia would have done post-9/11.  He would have not gone there with a bullhorn and struck that right tone.  More likely than not, he would have been his usual fey, apologetic self and waxed professorially about how evil America is and how justified Muslims are for attacking us, with a sidebar on how good the attacks were because they would humble us.

Honestly, we don’t think President Gore would have been much better that day.  The world needed George W. Bush, his bullhorn, and his indominable spirit that day…and we will forever be grateful to this man for that.

As we will always be grateful for what George and Laura Bush did this week, with no media attention, when they very quietly went to Ft. Hood and met personally with the families of the victims of this terrorist attack.

FOR HOURS.

The Bushes went and met privately with these families for HOURS, hugging them, holding them, comforting them.

If there are any of you out there with any connection at all to the Bushes, we implore you to give them our thanks…you tell them at a bunch of gay Hillary guys in Boystown, Chicago were wrong about the Bushes…and are deeply, deeply sorry for any jokes we told about them in the past, any bad thoughts we had about these good, good people.

You may be as surprised by this as we are ourselves, but from this day forward George W. and Laura Bush are now on the same list for us as the Clintons, Geraldine Ferraro, Stephanie Tubbs Jones, and the other political figures we keep in our hearts and never allow anyone to badmouth.

Criticize their policies academically and intelligently and discuss the Bush presidency in historical and political terms…but you mess with the Bushes personally and, from this day forward, and you’ll answer to us.

We hope someday to be able to thank George W. and Laura in person for all they’ve done, and continue to do.  They didn’t have to head to Ft. Hood.  That was not their responsibility.

The Obamas should have done that.

But didn’t.

Wouldn’t.

Thank goodness George W. is still on his watch, with wonderful Laura at his side.

We are blessed as a nation to have these two out there…just as we are blessed to have the Clintons on the job, traveling the world doing the good they do.

And we are blessed to have Dick Cheney, wherever he is, keeping tabs on all that’s going on and speaking out when the current administration does anything too reckless and dangerous.

Cheney’s someone else we villainized and maligned in the past who we were also wrong about.  There has never been a Vice President, including Gore, Biden, or Mondale, who was more supportive of gay rights than “Darth Cheney”. There has never been a Vice President more spot-on right about the dangers facing this country from Islamic terrorism.

We live in strange, strange times indeed.

We are now officially committed fans of George W. and Laura Bush.  We are fans of Dick Cheney.  Our gratitude for them makes us newly protective of them, and the continued role they play in this country.

After the primary battle of 2008, we never thought we’d go back to Texas for anything, but sometime in 2010 we want to find some event in Dallas the Bushes will be at so at least one of us can go up to them, tell them we are deeply sorry for ever thinking ill of them, and thank them from the bottom of our hearts for their service to America.

We’re sure they will just stare at us and wonder why these gay Chicagoans are crying, but we don’t think we can get through a meeting with them without being emotional.

What they did at Ft. Hood for those families humbles us.  Every day, the Bushes are most likely doing something just like it behind the scenes.

We hope if any of you encounter them you will let them know this is deeply appreciated beyond partisan lines.

We will never look at the Bushes, the Bush presidencies, or their legacies the same again…and someday when his presidential library is built, we will be so proud to visit there and tell anyone will listen about November 10th, 2009, the day we finally appreciated former President George W. Bush and his wife Laura.

Thank you for your service, Mr. President.  We’re sorry we didn’t appreciate you while you were in office, but we thank Heaven we’ve wised up and can see the good you are out there doing, under the radar, today.

*******

NOTE:  Because some of you wanted to re-read it again and have emailed us to ask for it, here’s what we said to President Bush on January 20th, at the beginning of The Golden Age of Hope and Change and Unicorns.

It’s actually really interesting to read the comments from way back then, to see either how mad at us people were that we dared to say anything nice about Bush or how pleased others out there were that Hillary Dems weren’t being evil to the man as he left office.
