President Obama met with a litany of liberal media personalities on Tuesday to push his tax cut message.

Spotted filing into the West Wing were Arianna Huffington of the Huffington Post and MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow, Lawrence O’Donnell, Ed Schultz and Al Sharpton.

The meeting was not on the president’s public schedule and White House officials initially declined to comment on the meeting. They later issued a statement to POLITICO:

“This afternoon at the White House, the President met with influential progressives to talk about the importance of preventing a tax increase on middle class families, strengthening our economy and adopting a balanced approach to deficit reduction,” spokesman Josh Earnest said.

The Obama administration conducts regular briefings of reporters from different media markets, but this did not immediately appear like such a briefing. According to White House visitor records, O’Donnell, for example, has not attended such briefings before.

Arianna Huffington is being cast by some unpaid Huffington Post contributors as an unethical robber baron. With Huffington awash in funds from AOL’s $315 million purchase of the Huffington Post, contributors have called a strike to demand proper compensation.

The Huffington Post, established in 2005, emerged as a leading source of aggregated news content and liberal commentary written by unpaid contributors. With the success of the site, founder Arianna Huffington rocketed to national fame, frequently appearing as a guest on cable news programs.

LOL…Huff Post writers/bloggers wrote for free, now they’re ticked off about her HUGE windfall from the sale to AOL.

“Do they really think 6,000 slave writers will continue to write for free for an international conglomerate like AOL, which  pays their web writers, even if it is meager?”

For Arianna Huffington to criticize Sarah Palin for appearing to refer to “notes written on her hand” during the “Q & A” part of her address to the Tea Party Convention shows exactly how much the left liberals fear Sarah Palin’s influence on American politics.

Here is a close-up of Palin’s hand, during the speech:

Now, without putting my glasses on, I think the first note is either “ENERGY” or “ECONOMY”. I cannot make out the second note.

But the last two lines sum up her goal for her speech:

                “ LIFT AMERICAN SPIRIT”

Does that say it all !!!???  What now Arianna??

from the Guardian UK:

She is a striking brunette with a decidedly outspoken attitude. She lambasts President Barack Obama as a socialist and has become the darling of America’s right-wing activists who flock to her appearances. She is hated by liberals and loved by conservatives.

Sarah Palin? Not quite. Meet Michele Bachmann, a Republican congresswoman from Minnesota who is being hailed as a new and increasingly powerful voice in American politics.

Bachmann, at 53, is a darling of the so-called Tea Party movement, which has campaigned vociferously against healthcare reform, the economic stimulus package and legislation to combat climate change. Her followers have been behind mass rallies in Washington and smaller ones all over the country. She has emerged as one of the most visible politicians in America, frequently appearing on the conservative Fox News channel, whose hosts often champion her causes.

She is part of an increasingly visible “female brand” of conservatism that is rising in America in the wake of the election of Obama. They include notable syndicated commentators such as Michelle Malkin and Ann Coulter, whose dislike for liberals has grown ever more shrill in recent months. And, of course, Palin herself. She is still a giant of the political and media landscape and next week embarks on a book tour to sell her autobiography. It has already sparked a media frenzy, with a heavily hyped appearance on Oprah Winfrey’s show, and become a huge bestseller on pre-orders alone.

from Newsbusters:

According to The Huffington Post, Michelle Malkin, Mark Levin, Glenn Beck and other right-of-center stars that regularly dominate the New York Times Hardcover Non-Fiction Bestsellers List are – or should be – in a league of their own.

No, that isn’t Arianna Huffington’s blog heaping praise on conservative authors. It’s a literal suggestion. With right-leaning books and authors holding so many spots on the list, and more to come – former Sarah Palin, former Dick Cheney and President George W. Bush all have books due out -Huffington Post suggests conservatives should have their own category to differentiate from other works of non-fiction.

In a Nov. 9 entry on The Huffington Post that laments Fox News host Glenn Beck pulling a feat not done before – holding the number one spot on The New York Times’ four lists: hardcover fiction, hardcover non-fiction, paperback non-fiction and children’s – they suggest a separate category altogether, not for political non-fiction, but conservative non-fiction.

Here is video of Karl Rove reacting to accusations by Obama Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel, who claimed virtually nothing has been done in Afghanistan in eight years of U.S. presence there. Emanuel claimed they were having to start from scratch in Afghanistan.

Question: Are National Security clearances needed for these types of meetings, and if so, how did Robert Gibbs and David Axelrod get through?

Secretary of Defense Robert Gates today announced his intentions to request more troops for Afghanistan, and to provide for relief of some who have been in the field longer than they should have been.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – U.S. Defense Secretary Robert Gates on Monday announced a temporary increase in the size of the U.S. Army that would boost the force by up to 22,000 troops for three years.

He told reporters at a news briefing that the increase, intended to cope with strains from the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, would raise the total strength of the Army to 569,000 soldiers.

“The Army faces a period where its ability to deploy combat units at acceptable fill rates is at risk,” Gates told reporters. “This is a temporary challenge which will peak in the coming year and abate over the course of the next three years.”

Note to “Arianna” and “Markos”: Where is the left wingnuts blasting the Obama administration for this “war effort”? Why are you not calling for his impeachment?
