Geithner’s New York Fed Told AIG to Limit Swaps Disclosure

Jan. 7 (Bloomberg) — The Federal Reserve Bank of New York, then led by Timothy Geithner, told American International Group Inc. to withhold details from the public about the bailed-out insurer’s payments to banks during the depths of the financial crisis, e-mails between the company and its regulator show.

AIG said in a draft of a regulatory filing that the insurer paid banks, which included Goldman Sachs Group Inc. and Societe Generale SA, 100 cents on the dollar for credit-default swaps they bought from the firm. The New York Fed crossed out the reference, according to the e-mails, and AIG excluded the language when the filing was made public on Dec. 24, 2008. The e-mails were obtained by Representative Darrell Issa, ranking member of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee.

The New York Fed took over negotiations between AIG and the banks in November 2008 as losses on the swaps, which were contracts tied to subprime home loans, threatened to swamp the insurer weeks after its taxpayer-funded rescue. The regulator decided that Goldman Sachs and more than a dozen banks would be fully repaid for $62.1 billion of the swaps, prompting lawmakers to call the AIG rescue a “backdoor bailout” of financial firms.

A Connecticut radio station quotes the State Capitol police chief as saying Turner’s comments went “above and beyond the threshold of free speech.’”

“He is inciting others through his Web site to commit acts of violence and has created fear and alarm,” Chief Michael Fallon said. “He should be held accountable for his conduct.”

President Obama scolded the nation’s large companies for their extravagent meetings and retreats, and had even singled out a particular group that had arranged a function in Las Vegas, Nevada. Now, the President has the audacity to deny a request for a meeting from Gov. Jim Gibbons. The Governor wanted to discuss the economic impact on the Las Vegas area with the President when he is Las Vegas next week. The President’s trip to Las Vegas— a fundraiser for Sen. Harry Reid.

Once again, the Audacity of Hope!!

I can’t say it any clearer: I will be helping Chris Dodd because he deserves the help,” Obama told the Boston Globe. He just has an extraordinary record of accomplishment, and I think the people of Connecticut will come to recognize that.”

Dodd, facing the lowest public approval ratings of his long political career, already faces Republican opposition in the 2010 election: Former U.S. Rep. Rob Simmons and state Sen. Sam S.F. Caligiuri recently announced their intentions to run for the seat.

The economy, the election of Barack Obama, and the ever-present “Clear and Present Danger” that his policies are and will have on our lives has begun to have the grassroots rumblings throughout our great Nation. Rick Santlli’s live TV rant regarding the massive spending spree of the liberals in Washington has ignited the populace, without regard to political affiliation.

I recently told my wife that we know that “Knowledge is Power, but only if we use that Knowledge

So with the knowledge that we have about our President and his incompetent appointees, with the knowledge that our elected officials are continuing to put their personal and political gain ahead of the “best interests” of the country (i.e- not READING LEGISLATION), where do we go from here?

We must understand what is at stake here. The issues that are impacting the America our grandparents left us go to our core values:

Family Values, with attacks on the sanctity of marriage, government intrusion into parental rights (such as education decisions), and challenges to our Freedom of Religion and our Freedom of Speech.

Immigration concerns and their impact on our economy and society.

                               Isolationism versus global leadership

The disregard that our leaders have for our Constitution, and the manner in which the new administration is seeking to move us toward socialism, the use of sharia law, and the outspoken denegratrion of our American society.

Where do we go from here? The national patriotic movements of “Tea Parties” that have occurred across the country demonstrate that the American people are aware of what is going on and that they know there must be a change. But, the real question is “Do we have the COURAGE to face the issues, to face our leaders and DEMAND the changes that are necessary?” This country was built upon a revolution from the tyranny of the monarchy in England, by LEADERS with the COURAGE to stand up for their beliefs. They were LEADERS willing to lead the charge, to stand on their PRINCIPLES, to not fear the challenge.

Our country’s direction must change now, and the ultimate question is will you LEAD the CHARGE, or sit on the SIDELINES!

Luke Rudkowski Framed in “Classic Set-up”

Calling in to the Alex Jones show today, WeAreChange founder and political activist Luke Rudkowski said he was set-up for arrest at the Hilton Hotel on Manhattan last Saturday. Luke was at the hotel in order to ask New York City mayor Michael Bloomberg about his refusal to help with the medical costs of 9/11 first responders. Bloomberg had promised to address the issue but has since ignored the pleas of WeAreChange and others to help first responders.

Rudkowski said Bloomberg’s security detail and hotel security claimed he would not leave the hotel. Luke told Jones he asked to leave the premise on numerous occasions and was not allowed to do so.

AIG chiefs pressed to donate to Dodd

$160,000 streamed in as senator gained power on banking committee

As Democrats prepared to take control of Congress after the 2006 elections, a top boss at the insurance giant American International Group Inc. told colleagues that Sen. Christopher J. Dodd was seeking re-election donations and he implored company executives and their spouses to give.

Getty Images Sen. Christopher J. Dodd, chairman of the Senate Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs Committee, has lost some political standing heading into re-election because of his ties to American International Group Inc.

The message in the Nov. 17, 2006, e-mail from Joseph Cassano, AIG Financial Products chief executive, was unmistakable: Mr. Dodd was “next in line” to be chairman of the Senate Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs Committee, which oversees the insurance industry, and he would “have the opportunity to set the committee’s agenda on issues critical to the financial services industry.

“Given his seniority in the Senate, he will also play a key role in the Democratic Majority’s leadership,” Mr. Cassano wrote in the message, obtained by The Washington Times.
