JOPLIN, Missouri (AFP) – President Barack Obama, paying tribute to victims of one of deadliest tornadoes in US history, pledged Sunday to stand with Joplin, Missouri “every step of the way” as it rebuilds.

“We’re not going anywhere,” Obama told a memorial service at Missouri Southern State University.

“We will be with you every step of the way,” the president said, raising his voice over applause. “The cameras may leave, the spotlight may shift. But we will be with you every step of the way until Joplin is restored and this community is back on its feet.”

The massive tornado, which killed 142 people in this town of 50,000, was one of the worst ever in the United States.

Officials said late Sunday that at least 43 people remain missing, down from a list of 232 missing persons that was released on May 26.

The president’s motorcade drove through some of the hardest-hit areas, stopping along with Nixon to talk to residents, many of whose homes were destroyed by the 200 miles per hour (300 kilometer per hour) winds.

I am no supporter of the Code Pink goons, but Freedom of Speech is one of our guaranteed Rights:

Full blown police state?  Granted, it’s code pink, but they’re only silently dancing at the Jefferson Memorial.  Also, at the end, the cop says “you’re not allowed to video tape in the memorial.”

In the midst of tweeting about a  hockey game and an appearance on the Rachel Maddow Show, NY Congressman Anthony Weiner “allegedly” tweeted an picture of himself in his “briefs”.

Throughout the weekend, “Weinergate” has continued to evolve, given that the “tweet” was meant as a private message for a 21-year old Seattle college student, who, according to her Facebook and Twitter, before she scrubbed it, was enamored with the Congressman (can we say “low self-esteem). While Weiner’s office says that his accounts were hacked, Weiner’s usage suggests differently. Furthermore, the Congressman’s office has not allegedly made reports to the FBI to have the matter pursued, despite tighter enforcement of attacks on politicians computer accounts.

In today’s segment of the saga, it appears that the Congressman tweets with a porn star and a teenager (yes…. allegedly). And all from his official @RepAnthonyWeiner twitter account. The picture(s) in question link to a “yFrog” account, which is also one of the Congressman’s accounts.

( One commenter notes that the picture actually looks like some middle-schooler…… which goes along with the Congressman’s persona , wouldn’t you say!)

Did we forget to  mention that the Congressman has not yet celebrated his first wedding anniversary (July 10th). His wife, Huma Abedin, works for Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, and Bill Clinton officiated at their wedding.

DES MOINES, Iowa — In a move designed to propel her closer to a presidential run, former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin will set out on a bus tour of the country on Sunday, making stops at symbolic sites along the way.

“Starting this weekend, Sarah Palin will embark on a ‘One Nation’ tour of historical sites that were key to the formation, survival, and growth of the United States of America,” SarahPAC treasurer Tim Crawford said in a statement to RealClearPolitics. “The tour will originate in Washington, D.C. It will proceed north up the east coast.”

Details were still being hammered out on Thursday, but sources indicated to RCP that the bus tour is expected to last several weeks and will be divided into separate geographical stretches for logistical reasons.

Members of Palin’s immediate family are expected to join her on the trip, which will eventually take her through key early-voting states.

ABC’s Emily Friedman (@abcemily) reports: After spending the day in Chicago fundraising, Mitt Romney sat down with small business owners at Gino’s East, a pizza joint famous for their deep-dish pizza.

Not wanting any of the leftover slices to go to waste, Romney sent the remaining pies to where else but President Obama’s Chicago reelection headquarters.

Asked if the pies actually made it to Obama’s HQ, a campaign source said that they had.

In fact, Romney himself tweeted a photo of a delivery boy heading out with the loot, writing, “Great deep dish at @ginoseast. Sending the extra slices to @barackobama and his Chicago HQ team.”

Presidential hopeful Tim Pawlenty also took a swipe at Obama today with this tweet:  ”@barackobama sorry to interrupt the European pub crawl, but what was your Medicare plan?”

Refusing to give MSNBC’s Ed Schultz any ratings at all, I catch his show when it replays later in the evening.

On his radio show earlier this week, the obnoxious pundit used a vile term when referring to conservative pundit Laura Ingraham. For her part, Ms. Ingraham basically brushed the comment off, stating that she would add a line or so to her upcoming book about the mysoginistic commentator.

Yesterday, Schultz privately reached out to Ingraham to apologized, noting that he left her a message and would again try to speak with her personally. He then met with the management of MSNBC/NBC, and was apologetic for his actions, and the manner in which they reflect upon the network as a whole. Realizing he is not one who has avoided controversy, in his on-air apology, Schultz noted that he had truly crossed a line that was wrong, and accepted responsibility for his actions. His apology was extended to his wife, children and grandchildren as well. In fact, Schultz mentioned his wife more than once in his apology, so one has to believe that she was shocked at his comment on-air.

For his part, it seems that this might be one of those more sincere statements.

Note: MSNBC’s Chris Matthews, who is very derogatory about Sarah Palin and even moreso about Michele Bachmann must have received the “word from the powers that be”, and he stated that he would try to be a little kinder in his coverage of Rep. Bachmann!
