It is the face of the young victim, Christina Taylor Greene, that symbolizes the tragedy of the shooting in Tucson that took 5 other lives and injured 13 others, including Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords. F&F Gretchen Carlson’s motherly instincts broke through in the interview, and she becomes emotional as she tries to complete the interview with Roxanna Greene, Christina’s mother.

Man, that’s tough to watch. Carlson did extremely well given the subject matter.

I heard the mother on another interview before this one, but there was just something about the mother to mother aspect of this, and I believe that Gretchen’s children are in the same age range as the Greene children, not that that makes any difference. I think it is this small child that makes the politicizing of this tragedy so difficult. Regardless of who put forth the first volley in the spirited debate over the public discourse’s role in this tragedy, it should not have occurred until AFTER the facts came out, and these families had time to begin their mourning process.
