They told Couric the movement is a “visceral reaction” to the idea that “our federal government was growing too large, that too much power was being centralized, and government bureaucracies that the American people were over-taxed, in some ways over-regulated.”
They also told Couric it is fundamentally a “patriotic movement” – a movement that loves America and what America stands for in the world.

Hey All,
First of all, Couric is an OBVIOUS idiot. I don’t get to see much of her, except for clips here and there, but these 38 minutes really woke me up about her.
Mr Guida clearly stated that what got his attention was Bush’s STIMULUS package. Katie probably didn’t get the 600 dollar “rebate” check that most of us got. She thought Guida was talking about the TARP bailout fund, and she was wrong.
But she kept at the TARP bill when Guida was clearly talking about the Bush STIMULUS package of May 2008 which “only” cost us about 145 BILLION dollars, which was OVER five times LESS than Obama’s “stimulus” package cost us.
But Guida “gets it”. Obama campaigned on “Hope and Change”, and what we got is the people who made those bad decisions, or those who were supposed t be regulating these big banks, are EXACTLY the ones who are making policy NOW. Why doesn’t Couric understand that?
And then Couric believes that these banks “made” these bad loans. She must be trying to confuse these men, because I’m “just” a high school graduate, and I understand that these loans were FORCED upon the banks by Freddie and Fannie. The banks didn’t make those loans themselves, Freddie and Fannie “made” the loans, and then the Government TOLD the banks they had to buy them. Oh they bundled some “good” loans in there to make them look attractive, but it was the GOVERNMENT who forced these banks to buy those “bundles”.
I really appreciated Mr Johns letting Couric know that there are MANY out here that do not like the fact that Goverment was trying to MANDATE us to buy something that is a “product”, and asking where in the Constitution does it give the Congress the power to do this. Johns also pointed out that there aready exists a program to help the poor with health care, and it’s called MEDICAID, great point Mr Johns.
Johns seems to be a very well spoken man.
Couric once again shows just how much of an idiot she is by suggesting that Coakley ran a bad campaign, and that the Scott/Coakley election was “low hanging fruit”.
Hey Couric, are you forgetting that this seat was held by a KENNEDY for over half a century, and that the Democrats pretty much run Massachusettes? Coakley should have had a landslide victory if not for people like those in the Tea Party Movement that motivated people, and informed them. I would also like to point out, that in my opinion, those glasses she keeps putting on and taking off, don’t do a thing for her. I think she is trying to imitate Elton John.
I replayed the comment about ten times, but does Couric suggest that the people in the Tea Party Movement are “anti intellectual”? Can someone please tell me that’s NOT what she said. It’s at about the 34:15 to 34:20 mark of the interview.
Both Johns and Guida handled the interview very well.
I agree with them, we can have differences of opinion on many issues, but the MAIN issues for the majority of Americans today is the expansion of Government, and the fiscal irresponsibility that started well before this President took office. It has gone on for decades, both by Republican Presidents and Democrat Presidents.
But we all have to realize that for about the last two years now, we have been spending more and more on STUPID stuff.
Bush had the “rebate” check. Heck I thought a “rebate” was when you buy a coat for 29.95 and send in the coupon, and a few weeks later you get 10 bucks back from that 29.95.
And then Bush had the “bailout” of the financial industry. I thought a bailout was what you did when your ship was sinking. You bail out the water, and hope you stay afloat long enough to reach shore.
Then Obama came along and had a “stimulus” package that cost over five times the amount of Bush’s “rebate” package. It’s been nearly a year, and the 787 BILLION (that’s about 1/4th of all of the tax money that the IRS collected last year, but that money was already spent, so we had to BORROW the 787 BILLION), sure hasn’t made a difference in these parts. Besides, isn’t “stimulus” something you hope your wife (or husband) does to you?
And then Obama decided that the people should OWN businesses. Give me a break, the Government can’t even balance it’s own books, and HE wants us to believe that they can run a company. Not just one company either, but companies in the banking industry, insurance industry, and auto industry.
What’s he thinking? Does he think that we are going to sit around and allow the Government to do this? Hell no we aren’t, we’re going to voice our opposition to stuff like this. How many “pro” health care questions did you hear on the news at those town hall meetings? I sure didn’t hear many. The people of Massachusttes spoke loud and clear last Tuesday.
And if Obama wants to keep it up, he’ll hear us even louder until November, when we will send him a message that he WILL understand.

Gosh IB, this is one of your longest postings yet. I’m glad you wrote about the interview as I cannot watch Katie Couric. I’m also glad you took the time to explain and I always trust your accuracy and input.

American liberty and prosperity began as a seed planted by about fifty people in New England almost 400 years ago. There were no government caretakers, so they had to do everything for themselves, think out of the bubble and live out of the box of Old World tyranny they left behind. All individuals were their own government. Each shared governance with others close to them for defense. Government was close, no more than a day’s horseback ride in counties so citizens could change it when needed, advise it in town hall meetings, vote to change it, and punish it by vigilance committees, as people ruled government. Today, government has moved far away, grown, become an organized crime, stealing from and harming its people. The Tea Party movement has come into being as is our tradition.
