Walking Away From Your “Underwater Mortgage”: A new Moral Dilemna

Do you remember the number of times you had to sign and/or intial that pages of ALL the documents when you bought your home? How about the feeling of achieving the “American Dream… that house in the suburbs? Fastforward to the decline in property values, and the rising number of homeowner who owe more than their dream home is worth. And I am not referring to those who bought more than they could afford, etc.
So the new moral dilemna is what to do when one has lost every bit of equity in the home, every dime of the down payment. Do they struggle it out, or do they take that proverbial bullet, and simply walk away. That is the subject of a paper by a law professor from the University of Arizona:
Go ahead. Break the chains. Stop paying on your mortgage if you owe more than the house is worth. And most important: Don’t feel guilty about it. Don’t think you’re doing something morally wrong.
That’s the incendiary core message of a new academic paper by Brent T. White, a University of Arizona law school professor, titled “Underwater and Not Walking Away: Shame, Fear and the Social Management of the Housing Crisis.”
White contends that far more of the estimated 15 million U.S. homeowners who are underwater on their mortgages should stiff their lenders and take a hike.
Doing so, he suggests, could save some of them hundreds of thousands of dollars that they “have no reasonable prospect of recouping” in the years ahead. Plus the penalties are nowhere near as painful or long-lasting as they might assume, he says.
“Homeowners should be walking away in droves,” White said. “But they aren’t. And it’s not because the financial costs of foreclosure outweigh the benefits.”
Sure, credit scores get whacked when you walk away, he acknowledges. But as long as you stay current with other creditors, “one can have a good credit rating again — meaning above 660 — within two years after a foreclosure.”
Better yet, homeowners can default “strategically”: Buy all the major items they’ll need for the next couple of years — a new car, even a new house — just before they pull the plug on their current mortgage lender.
“Most individuals should be able to plan in advance for a few years of limited credit,” White said, with minimal disruptions to their lifestyles.

Dubious About “Climate Change”: IPCC Confirms Problems with the “Science”
November 30, 2009 in Campaign 2008, Campaign 2010, Campaign 2012, Capitalism, Economy, Family values, Politics, socialism, Uncategorized | Tags: Al Gore, Barack Obama, climate change, Eduardo Zorito, global warming, HopenHagen, IPCC | 1 comment
I have always been one that is skeptical about global warming. Oops! That’s not politically correct this week…. it is “climate change”. Yet even if one believes that the changes we have seen are merely historical and cyclical in nature, we can still make efforts to help the environment.
That being said, the recent “hack” of emails in the science community show that the “science” has been manipulated, albeit to the financial benefit of Al Gore and others. An IPCC Scientist Confirms that the “global warming” is nothing more than MONKEY BUSINESS:
I may confirm what has been written in other places: research in some areas of climate science has been and is full of machination, conspiracies, and collusion, as any reader can interpret from the CRU-files. They depict a realistic, I would say even harmless, picture of what the real research in the area of the climate of the past millennium has been in the last years. The scientific debate has been in many instances hijacked to advance other agendas.
These words do not mean that I think anthropogenic climate change is a hoax. On the contrary, it is a question which we have to be very well aware of. But I am also aware that in this thick atmosphere -and I am not speaking of greenhouse gases now- editors, reviewers and authors of alternative studies, analysis, interpretations, even based on the same data we have at our disposal, have been bullied and subtly blackmailed. In this atmosphere, Ph D students are often tempted to tweak their data so as to fit the ‘politically correct picture’. Some, or many issues, about climate change are still not well known. Policy makers should be aware of the attempts to hide these uncertainties under a unified picture. I had the ‘pleasure’ to experience all this in my area of research.

Nigerian Email Scams and Chelsea Clinton

What, you may ask, would those obnoxious email and fax scams from Nigeria have to do with First Daughter Chelsea Clinton? Well, with the announcement of her engagement to her longtime boyfriend Marc Mezvinsky, Chelsea adds a new controversy line to her resume.

It seems that her future father-in-law was sentenced to prison for around seven years. Former Iowa Congressman Edward Mezvinsky got caught up in the Nigerian scams.
Bill and Hillary’s future son-in-law works for a Manhattan hedge fund as an investment banker, and like Chelsea, he attended Stanford University. The two have known each other since they were teenagers. A summer 2010 wedding is planned…. probably just ahead of Hillary Clinton’s resignation from the State Department and formation of the Hillary 2012 Campaign Committee!!

It seems that Michael Moore was not paying attention to Candidate Obama when it comes to to the war in Afghanistan:
I simply can’t believe you’re about to do what they say you are going to do. Please say it isn’t so.
Are you serious? Have you drunk Bush’s Kool-Aid? I refuse to believe it.

Become an ambassador to decrease the influence of FOX’s misinformation and propaganda. This is BuzzFlash’s first advocacy project and we need a national guerilla squad of individuals who will join us in various strategies to stop the spread of FOX into public settings. In the coming months, we’ll be advising you on how to ask nicely to change the news channel, leave flyers warning people about FOX “News” damaging brain cells, and many more strategies to come, including a device that can turn TV sets off from up to 50 feet away!

Obama and the Salahi’s play games with Secret Service

Is the Secret Service allowing the Obama team to call the shots in the protection of the President, or is Obama trying to hide something where the “Party Creashers” are concerned? It appears that Canada Free Press knows more about the Salahi’s than our Mainstream Media is reporting……….and why is the Secret Service or Obama Administration playing their present game?:
“Party Crashers” had five-year relationship with Obama before state dinner
Hey Secret Agent Man, here’s Obama, the senator flashing his pearly whites with Randy Jackson, better known as a judge on American Idol. “Others pictured are Black Eyed Peas Rock Band; Tareq Salahi the President of the America’s Polo Cup; President Elect Obama, Fergie from Black eyed Peas and Michaele Salahi, posing this time as a former Miss USA and SuperModel.
Interesting little detail for White House gumshoes: As the above photo was published in June 2005, Barack Obama was still Senator Obama and not the President Elect.

Note to Obama team: the Secret Service puts their lives on the line, in the line of fire, for the President of the united States. To play games with their role, in these times of terrorism in all forms, is unconscionable.

The Truth About Sarah, From an Alaskan
November 26, 2009 in Campaign 2008, Campaign 2010, Campaign 2012, Capitalism, Economy, Family values, Politics, socialism, Uncategorized | Tags: Barack Obama, CBC, Democrats, Frank Murkowski, Obama care, oil giants, Sarah Palin | Leave a comment
found in my “Inbox” today:
THE ATTACK ON SARAH PALIN MUST STOP……ALASKANS WERE FORTUNATE TO HAVE HER ………LATEST EMAIL…..
By Dewie Whetsell, Alaskan Fisherman.
The last 45 of my 66 years I’ve spent in a commercial fishing town in Alaska. I understand Alaskapolitics but never understood national politics well until this last year. Here’s
the breaking point: Neither side of the Palin controversy gets it. It’s not about persona, style, rhetoric, it’s about doing things. Even Palin supporters never mention the things that I’m
about to mention here.
1- Democrats forget when Palin was the Darling of the Democrats, because as soon as Palin took the Governor’s office away from a fellow Republican and tough SOB, Frank Murkowski, she tore into the Republican’s “Corrupt Bastards Club” (CBC) and sent them packing. Many of them are now residing in State housing and
wearing orange jump suits. The Democrats reacted by skipping around the yard, throwing confetti and singing, “la la la la” (well, you know how they are). Name another governor in this
country that has ever done anything similar.
2- Now with the CBC gone, there were fewer Alaskan politicians to protect the huge, giant oil companies here. So she constructed and enacted a new system of splitting the oil profits called “ACES.” Exxon (the biggest corporation in the world) protested and Sarah told them, “don’t let the door hit you in the stern on your way out.” They stayed, and Alaska
residents went from being merely wealthy to being filthy rich. Of course, the other huge international oil companies meekly fell in line. Again, give me the name of any other governor in the country that has done anything similar.
3- The other thing she did when she walked into the governor’s office is she got the list of State requests for federal funding for projects, known as “pork.” She went through the list, took
85% of them and placed them in the “when-hell-freezes-over” stack. She let locals know that if we need something built, we’ll pay for it ourselves. Maybe she figured she could use the
money she got from selling the previous governor’s jet because it was extravagant. Maybe she could use the money she saved by
dismissing the governor’s cook (remarking that she could cook for her own family), giving back the State vehicle issued to her, maintaining that she already had a car, and dismissing her
State provided security force (never mentioning – I imagine – that she’s packing heat herself). I’m still waiting to hear the names of those other governors.
4- Now, even with her much-ridiculed “gosh and golly” mannerism, she also managed to put together a totally new approach to getting a
natural gas pipeline built which will be the biggest private construction project in the history of North America. No one else
could do it although they tried. If that doesn’t impress you, then you’re trying too hard to be unimpressed while watching her do things like this while baking up a batch of brownies with her other hand.
5- For 30 years, Exxon held a lease to do exploratory drilling at a place called Point Thompson. They made excuses the entire time why they couldn’t start drilling. In truth they were holding it like an investment. No governor for 30 years could make them get started…
This summer, she told them she was revoking their lease and kicking them out. They protested and threatened court action. She shrugged
and reminded them that she knew the way to the court house. Alaska won again.
6- President Obama wants the nation to be on 25% renewable resources for electricity by 2025. Sarah went to the legislature and submitted her plan for Alaska to be at 50% renewables by 2025. We are already
at 25%. I can give you more specifics about things done, as opposed to style and persona. Everybody wants to be cool, sound cool, look
cool. But that’s just a cover-up. I’m still waiting to hear from liberals the names of other governors who can match what mine has
done in two and a half years. I won’t be holding my breath.
By the way, she was content to return to AK after the national election and go to work, but the haters wouldn’t let her. Now these adolescent screechers are obviously not scuba divers. And no one ever told them what happens when you continually jab and pester a barracuda. Without warning, it will spin around and tear
your face off. Shoulda known better.
You have just read the truth about Sarah Palin that sends the media, along with the democrat party, into a wild uncontrolled frenzy to
discredit her. I guess they are only interested in skirt chasers, dishonesty, immoral people, liars, womanizers, murderers, and bitter ex-presidents’ wives.
So “You go, Girl.” I only wish the men in Washington had your guts, determination, honesty, and morals.
I rest my case.
OOOh, Barracuda!!!(Emphasis mine)
Only FOOLS listen to the biased media. [Now we know why Lou Dobbs quit CNN]
