While one of the contestants in the Miss America pageant was asked about her childhood nickname as her “Question”, Perez Hilton put his agenda front and center, and asked Miss California her views on same-sex marriage. Carrie Prejean, 21, believes that her answer cost her the Miss America crown, as she came in as the runner-up. But Hilton’s aftermath has been even more troubling, with his videoblog calling her names, etc.
Ms. Prejean stands by her answer, that for her, and her family, marriage is between a man and a woman. Her answer was said in a manner that should not have offended anyone, in that she clearly stated that this is her beliefs.
Today, she has an unlikely ally coming to her defense: Sir Elton John !

Hey All,
Only more evidence that the goal of “society” is to make all of us mind numbed robots. Why should this woman be ridiculed for what she believes?
I’d like to reply to this statement by Keith Lewis:
“As co-director of the Miss California USA, I am personally saddened and hurt that Miss California believes marriage rights belong only to a man and a woman,” said Keith Lewis who runs the Miss California competition. “I believe all religions should be able to ordain what unions they see fit. I do not believe our government should be able to discriminate against anyone and religious beliefs have no politics in the Miss California family.”
I have no problem with him being “personally saddened” my problem is with the next line where he talks about “religious beliefs”.
Why was the question asked if it brought out “religious beliefs”? Why isn’t he outraged that the question was asked in the first place?
For him to state that he feels religions should be able to “ordain unions that they see fit” is simply irresponsible.
So if a religion wanted to “ordain” marriage with a 10 year old that would be a “union that they see fit”, and that would be peachy keen with Lewis?
How about a man and three women? How about a woman and her dog? How about either sex with say a toaster?
All of these are “unions”, and Lewis feels that if religions “see fit” to “ordain” these “unions” then he has no problem with it.
Perez Hilton’s video shows his immaturity. On one hand, gays think that they should be accepted, and on the other hand, other points of view should be censored and ridiculed.
Can anyone say hypocrite? Both of these folks.
Elton John says:
“If gay people want to get married, or get together, they should have a civil partnership… The word ‘marriage,’ I think, puts a lot of people off. You get the same equal rights that we do when we have a civil partnership. Heterosexual people get married. We can have civil partnerships.”
I whole heartedly agree with Sir Elton. “Marriage” is a word that reflects a union between a man and woman, I have no problem with people of the same sex being able to have a “civil partnership”, or whatever else they want to call it, just don’t use marriage. As far as I know, they can go to ANY lawyer, and have the proper paperwork written up.
Why do homsexuals have different names for each gender? Men are considered “gay”, and women are considered “lesbians”. Why do they have to have two different names for the same thing? Same thought about marriage, and civil unions, different names for the same thing.
I’d also like to respond to one of the comments left on this article from “Kevin” who wrote:
“If marriage is a religious institution, then it should not be endorsed by the government. There should be no tax benefits, and no special privileges/rights granted to husband/wife by the state or federal government, simply because a couple is married.”
There are no “tax benefits” awarded to married people. As a matter of fact “Kevin” until just a few years ago, if you were married and filed jointly, you were PUNISHED, because the standard deduction for this catagory wasn’t equal to the amount that we would get for filing seperately.
The bottom line is that because a woman didn’t answer a question in the way people wanted, she is “punished” by not winning. No one has said that the answer wasn’t acceptable, all I hear is that it wasn’t “politically correct”. It was an appropriate answer to a question that goes to someone’s “beliefs”. You can disagree with the answer, but punish them?
I suppose if she would have answered with something like “I don’t think this is a question that should be asked”, she would have been ridiculed for being someone who didn’t want to share her “thoughts” with the people.
Instead of giving the answer that would have been called “compassionate”, she answered from her heart. We can agree to disagree with her answer, but I believe that some folks won’t be satisfied until everyone “feels” the same way.
It’s ridiculous.

IB: Ms Perjean answered the question absolutely correct, even politically correct, because it is from her heart, the values that were instilled upon her.

Gay marriage is not the issue here.
The issue was that someone answered in front of a large audience the way she felt, with integrity and honesty.
If you don’t see that then you might be missing it here.
She raised the bar for integrity and Hilton acted like a child.

Blue rain… You are correct that it is not the issue that answered, but the fact that she answered based upon her convictions. I agree with you 100%.

She did the right thing, she said what she belived in, honestly, what is the problem with that, maybe hilton Peres ought to take a jump off a pier and cool off, he trapped her into a corner and she passed on top of that, Perez said that he believed in religion, well he ought to get reminded into the Catholic laws on same sex marriage, he ought to ask the Pope, see if he gets reprimended for his answer, like in out with a job, whats the percentage on that,

Darrell: I say we let Perez go do the face-to-face talking with Ahmadinejad…….. I hear they are very “open-minded” about his sexual orientation.

Does anyone know of a site directly set up to support her and let her know that mainsteam America agrees with her? She was given a loaded question and deserves respect for standing by her beliefs.

Blue Rain, Perez Hilton did not act like a child, he acted like what he is a queer-faggot, I am a homosexual and I agree with Sir Elton Jones, marriage is between a man and a woman. That’s the way GOD intended it, Perez is just jealous that she will marry a handsome man and there will be one less man for him to dream about, he is the scum of the gay world.

According to Donald Trump, about 70% of the calls and emails to his office have been in support of her answer- not necessarily agreeing with her, but in her right to have answered based on her beliefs, not what Perez wanted to hear.
Further, since she attends San Diego Christian College, Perez knew he’d be putting her “on the spot” with his question.

Miss California’s got cahones for answering the question honestly. The end result is that she’s more popular (or at least well known) now than she would have been if she had won
