The Screen Actor’s Guild has been actively trying to get a new contract for its members, but talks have been stalled, and now, as the economy continues to be troubled, many of the marquee-named actors are standing up against the SAG management reagrding a Strike Vote.
Sally Field, George Clooney, Helen Hunt, Kevin Spacey, Morgan Freeman, and Alec Baldwin are among a growing group of actors that say that now is NOT the time for the actor’s to go out on strike, now is not the time to put many others out of work because of a strike.
While their politics may tend to lean toward the left, their actions in the strike discussions show that their are times where their politics is not as important as what the right thing to do is.

JAMES,
Good to see that instead of getting 20 million per picture, actors and actresses are standing up for the “little guy”, and only taking 15 million per picture.
Good for them.

IB: If they really stood up for the little guy, they’d take nothing up front at all. But I think their main thought here was that a strike would hurt the techs, the film editors, etc.,….. the one’s that make it possible for them to make millions.

Hi all,
I guess I’m becoming quite the cynic.
I think they aren’t striking because it would not reflect well on them as a group. They are suddenly concerned with the appearance of being patriotic. It appears that with the election of BHO that it is now fashionable to be patriotic. And as we all know, it is vital to be in fashion in Hollywood.
I believe that very few of them are concerned with the “little people”. Granted, some are. Many are only concerned with their image. They are complete and utter phonies.
I hope they prove me wrong.

Chisholm,
First I’d like to post that it is very nice to see you.
Have you checked out my posts over at BHDC?
One can only hope that the “royalty” in the US has in the back of their minds that it’s not only their acting talent that brought them success, but also the person who wrote the script, the person who put on their makeup (because we all know if they put it on themselves, well, I don’t even want to think about it), and did their hair. I hope they are aware of the people behind the camera, and the people who put the lights in just the right spot, and all of the other “commoners” that it takes to make the final product.
This strike would affect their well being. They don’t get paid the millions that the stars get, or even the hundreds of thousands that the “supporting” cast gets.
But you know this is Hollywood, and this is the USA, so your point is well taken.
