Biden’s “Test of Mettle” Comment: Obama Spinmasters Can’t Spin It

     Sen. Joe Biden has stayed very close to the “script” since the Democratic National Convention, and with the exception of a miscue on that “three letter word J-O-B-S“, his gaffes have been minimal. But then he spoke to a group of fundraisers this weekend.

“Mark my words. It will not be six months before the world tests Barack Obama like they did John Kennedy. The world is looking. We’re about to elect a brilliant 47-year-old senator president of the United States of America.”  “Remember I said it standing here if you don’t remember anything else I said. Watch, we’re gonna have an international crisis, a generated crisis, to test the mettle of this guy.” Sen. Joe Biden (D-DE)

     Biden expresses his concern that “forces” on the international stage will want to test the “mettle” of Barack Obama, who Biden noted jas a “strong spine”. But Biden went on further to state that the Americans must band behind the Commander in Chief, and though it may appear to be a wrong strategy at first, we must be willing to accept his leadership.

     The Obama spinmasters have spent 48 hours trying to dissolve what appears to be Biden’s primary rhetoric that Obama is not experienced enough to handle an international crisis. Despite trying to claim that Sen. Biden was stating that “whoever” is President will be tested, his words– just words– are clearly meant toward Obama. The undertone is that even now, Biden has his doubts about Obama.

     One point I found most interesting is the fact that we must “rally around and support” Obama when he is tested so we can stand united. This must apply only to Democrats, because the “joint” support has not been there for President Bush. We are facing threats in the form of terrorist attacks, both externally and internally, as well as economic terrorism. The candidates resumes (or lack thereof) need to be scrutinized again so the correct candidate is given the job on Election day.
